Hi is there any benefit in starting at FB in early December 2019 vs early January 2020? I would lose a few end of year bonuses at my current Co if I were to start in December. Please, comment on these things at FB: 1. Is there an actual pay raise to expect in January 2020? 2. Refreshers? 3. End of year bonus? 4. Better onboarding bootcamp/teammatching after Christmas holidays? 5. Anything else I am missing? @facebook @fb
I'm just about wrapping up my final round interviews and looking to start after the holidays if I get offers, because I'm going out of the country on vacation BUT I imagine that people might be less enthusiastic and willing to help onboard you at the end of the year. Most people have one foot out the door for the holidays. Additionally, some google guys were telling me I'll miss out on refreshers if I start in Jan :( but it's ok for me anyway.
You will get a small salary increase and refresher if you start in December. It might not be a meaningful amount. If you can delay starting further, you could try to graduate boot camp after April 1st. Then you wouldn’t have the pressure of a review in your first half. You will probably want to start no earlier than the end of January/early February for that.

You could put your signing bonus into a 401k and split it across both years if it exceeds the limits
Why would I want to do that (vs paycheck deductions)? My salary is lower this year so I would rather have my bonus in 2019 tax year
