FB vs Uber vs G

I have offers from FB, Uber, and G
FB e5
200/30/610 (TC 382) + 80 sign on

Uber 5a
200/30/720 (TC 410) + 60 sign on

Google L5
Waiting for numbers but wouldn't be able to compete with the others I think. (Low 300 TC) (updated)

Career growth and compensation are important to me but so is WLB.
What would you pick?

As an engineer from FB, choose Uber, hope we can be colleagues one day.

@ Guber What I heard is that there is no firing bottom X % at Uber anymore. Also a lot of people get meet expectations. Is there a thing at Uber to let go people if l4 don’t get promoted to l5 in a certain time frame like Facebook? Can you please help answer?

    • Uber Guber
Bottom X% get no bonus, raise, or stock. They also have a very difficult time transferring. So either they're good enough to find a role at another company or they stay and continue to underperform.

@ Guber do you know what percentage get no bonus, raise, or stock? Is it sort of stack ranked or calibration within org?
      Jul 12
    • Uber Guber
Stack ranked with a strict percentage but I don't know the exact distribution.

Google always down level people. They might give you 1M rsu. G does have wlb you are looking for

You have nothing to lose by asking, especially you have 2 strong offers in hand. I would pick the FB offer.

@ewQj67 can I ask more RSU from Facebook in this band?

Of course, use your Uber number to crush them. Just say my Uber rsu is a lot higher, don't give exact numbers

I had a great experience talking to people at Uber. But there are some negative rumors about Uber culture that we hear from outside. Would you say they are team related or bad individual experiences rather than the culture?

Full disclosure, I accepted an offer from Uber but haven't joined yet. From my research and impressions from speaking with engineers, they've done a near 180 on culture since 2 years ago, especially with Dara at the helm. In Uber Seattle, I met a lot of LGBTQ engineers, and it seems way more diverse than Amazon or any other company of the same size in Seattle. Everyone tells me WLB here is great, and there's some crazy hiring going on for end of 2019.

This may just be the Seattle location, but it's consistent with what I've seen on blind about the company's trend as a whole.

I spoke to members in my hiring team and some people literally left because of the bad culture back then and are back now in the company, because the culture has significantly improved.

Uber is offering you their top comp for 5a. While FB is not offering you their top for 5. Google 4 will be a demotion. Anyway, Uber work stress is less than Facebook with more low hanging fruit. Go there.

Uber, a ton of open problems on many teams. I pitch projects to my manager and get the resources (PMs, Data Scientist, etc) to get them done. Culture has changed a lot. That’s a great offer, which team? Uber ride hailing, eats, ATG or one of the others? SF, Seattle or NY?

WLB is 930-530 for me and nothing on nights or weekend. However most of my team is 11-6/630

Can you refer me to your team :), looks interesting!! I am in AWS, the whole team usually work 10-12 hours daily, It’s a bad culture and shitty manager, even in weekends I see my team sends a code reviews and sending emails..

Uber stock will slide until they will improve income. May take several years to reach the price at which you will get yours. FB on the other hand gives more upfront cash and their stock should be more profitable for the next couple of years compared to U. IMO take the one with more upfront cash then in a year or so check back with U/G.

Op can always auto sell Uber stock and diversify. Uber stock can slide but so can FB stock.

My point was U will slide more % than F short term (1-3 years) Between the date it will be price locked and date it will be granted-sold for OP

Uber pays well because it needs to compete compensation wise and has raised enough money to do just that.

The lack of profitability is largely because the company historically prioritized growth over profit. Amazon is the same in this respect.
