Would you drive 2 hours one way for a 30 minute meeting with a recruiter? The position sounds good but no discussion on rate. Currently have active interviews in flight with big name companies. This prospect is for a series C startup. I will not be meeting with anyone from the company, only the recruiting company, who supposedly specializes in my field. They said they like to get to know their candidates. I feel, you can see my face over skype, why do I need to drive 4 hours to just see my face.
As a recruiter, it's a dumb ass thing to ask.
it might be a magic leap gig or something. if you have the time, take a wild ride. maybe plan something fun to do in the area so its just one of the things that you came there to do.
Absolutely not. If they are already that disrespectful of your time and you're not even an employee, imagine how much disrespect they will have for you if you're hired. Definite pass.
I wouldn't drive 5 minutes to see a recruiter. Especially someone from a recruiting company.
As someone who used to work at a recruiting agency, it's a waste of your time. They're just trying to check a box before they send your profile over. Skype should be fine.
You should definitely start respecting yourself. Remember that the recruiter works for you, you are the boss. You are the one with a degree in CS and they probably majored in Artistic Archeology. š
Well this comment is disrespectful. I am not a recruiter, an engineer rather. Someone majoring in Psychology or Archaeology doesn't mean they are less than you. Such inflated egos.
Ask them to come to you. if they're serious they will.
I sent an email and said I would meet half way. I also offered to pick them up at he Caltrain if they don't drive.
I would not consider jobs more than 30 mins away.
Would you commute 4h if hired?
That's the best part this is a 3rd party recruiter for a company 4000 miles away. And the position is full time remote.
Oh then no need to meet. In general, third party recruiters donāt meet in person. Must be a junior who tries to do good impression or an old school who is knew to this industry. Ask to use screenshare services, such as iMessage on Mac. Also third party recruiters are a bummer, as they often become your w2 employer. If you know the name of the company, reach them out directly.
Seems not worth it to me. Skype should be perfectly fine. Your time is valuable and it seems like they don't get this.
