Out of a first screening call for a non-technical role that requires 10 YOE, MBA but will remain an Individual Contributor for now. Comp shared at that stage looks low: Base: $165k-$180k Bonus: 20% TC: $230k-$260k Equity (guessed from numbers above): $180k-$320k vesting over 4Y The hiring manager wants to start building a team soon so this role is supposed to evolve into a People Management role soon. The position in itself is quite interesting but I'm really stunned by the offer. Anyone at FB can enlighten me on this and how realistically it can spin off to the market comp? On my end: 14 YOE, top tier MBA, People Management experience before in a SF Bay large High Tech company.
Non software engineering tracks typically pay much less though not exactly sure of the ranges. You are a people Mgr but not a SDM in your current role? Is your current TC below or above what FB quoted?
Current role, People Manager. I'm fine with IC though for now. Current TC is on the market, which is significantly above this
People manager but non tech? If your current comp is more than what FB is offering I am sure you can ask them to match it at least.
Bonus reads IC6 but base range looks more akin to IC5. Depending on your role, the equity could have a much lower bottom point of your range. Just a FYI- there is no comp bump for being a people manager. There may be HC to hire with more seniority so it is possible that you could secure a larger comp package after clearing interviews. I’d advise you to negotiate hard.
Thanks for helping me read between the lines here. That's valuable insight
I’m at FB in non-eng Ops role and can confirm this is lower range of IC 6, higher ranger of IC5 based off of the base. Unlike other companies, our equity for non-eng is super low. I compared to gf who works at Google at my same level and also non-eng. She makes 8k more in base, bonus 5% more, Equity 15K more per year. FYI bade is hard to negotiate but you’ll unlikely get more equity with negotiating too. Director level isn’t until IC8, which will take you 4-6 years from IC6 IMO
You’re non-tech bud. The funny and sad thing is, if you were an Engineering Manager “tech manager,” your TC would be near double. C’est la vive
Yep certainly that factor plays in. But with such a magnitude?
Yeah, it’s pretty ridiculous when you use near the same skill set at EM ll or so from those I’ve spoken to. Main reason why I’m switching over to SWE and fast tracking the engineering manager route since I know at the end of the day it’s where I want to end up.
They’re probably discounting the inherent value removal of an MBA with no hard skills and a giant ego. Seems a bit on the high end. Congrats!
No way! Very disrespectful!
Top tier MBA. Man, unless there is some clear vision to move up the ladder within 5-10 years to Director or something. I would really think about this.
You sound like MBA is a good thing, which is not.
Wtf is Zumper? Dont think that its a top tier hi tech company. Did you work for Msft, google, amazon, aapl in the past? If not then you didn’t work for top tier hi tech company in the bay area. Have lower expectations dude. Your interview performance matters and they probably are ok not bringing you at higher comp.
Good point, I think you're raising a good question but jump to the wrong conclusion. Zumper is not the high tech giant I was referring to and it doesn't look like Blind requires you to keep your company current.

I can’t believe they disrespected you like that!
Not sure if we're talking about respect/disrespect here. This is what it is for now but that seems a curious comp for the skills mix required
