What is the average base salary and TC look like for Data Scientist Analytics position L5 IC at Facebook Menlo Park office?
If you have a bachelor's and your skill are SQL, r, python, you can expect 150k average West coast, which isn't really a lot. 100k East coast. Adjusted for cost of living, sde wins every time
What about someone with Masters + 5 years exp + python skills?
If your goal is to make money, take my advice. Develop software that performs analytics. I do analytics and my TC is half of everyone else's, but I live in a very low cost area East coast so I live like a king with ez work life
Very poorly designed poll, what's the level you are talking about. Also, there is no free lunch. The reason these roles pay a lot is because a lot of strategic thinking is also expected especially as you move up. At some point you'll move away from writing queries to conceiving analysis and helping set strategic direction of things. I think the people best positioned to do this job really are economists. But that's not the majority at the company right now.
Sorry, I’ve 5 years exp + Masters, not sure what level would that be in FB
Right, insights and having business sense/strategy when you analyze data is a skill set that a lot of highly technical data scientists lack. And can be even more impactful. Nonetheless, since salary is determined by supply/demand of skill set required, analytics work is always going to pay less. But for people who have bachelors and ~3 years experience without advanced stats degrees, this type of role is pretty attractive.
Comp for IC5 data scientist analytics isn’t 300k. Think something like 170k base, 15% bonus and 200k RSU.
I think the lower part of the band for IC5 starts around 150-160k base.
This is just factually wrong.
When ppl talk about TC, doe they include the share component which vest in four years fully? Or they average yearly vesting? When I was hired, I was given 165k base, 15 percent bonus, and 230k worth shares for four years, not one year. So what’s my TC?
Was this IC4 or IC5?
Sorry if someone answered this for you already but if not your tc at that point was likely (assuming an equal 4 year vesting schedule) 247.25/yr + stock appreciation + any additional signons you have lingering for that year assuming the last two are 0 then your tc is 247.25 (189.75 [base+bonus] + 57.5 [stock grant/4])
I feel like this is the most talked about position on blind. So many people want to write queries for 200k lol
Better than writing queries for 100
Agreed. I’m among those interested in this position.
