I recently interviewed with Facebook and it went well. The first person I meet was a meet/greet, which last about 15 minutes. Later on, I found out that this person is the hiring manager. I really didn’t like the fact that she didn’t tell me that she was the hiring manager. Felt really sneaky and dishonest. So much, that even if I get an offer that I might turn it down. What are your thoughts?
Life is too short to work for anyone who does not impress you!
You know, it doesn’t sound great but in situations like this, communication is key. Talk with the manager if you have an offer and see what you think then.
Your recruiter should have let you know who you were interviewing with ahead of time. I know I checked those names on LinkedIn to see who was a manager.
They told me who I was interviewing with. I did look them up on LinkedIn and several were managers. There wasn’t really a way to know that she was the hiring manager.
If that was the case the recruiter should have told you if the manager was on the interview panel. Some recruiters are better then others.
Treat every person you meet as if they may one day be your manager. (I once interviewed someone for position at FB who later became my manager)
How did that happen? Was hired above your level?
Treat the janitor the same way as you would treat CEO. I would reject you as I feel you would have been extra kind to the hiring manager.
Don’t assume that I didn’t treat the hiring manager the same. I treat everyone the same. I just don’t like the fact that the person wasn’t upfront about her role. To me, that shows dishonesty. Why lie?
Maybe they didn't think to mention? Why assume that it's a lie or intentional or mean? Could be anything.
