Got an offer from FB, London for L4. I am interested only in backend opportunities and was wondering if there are any good backend teams which work on real problems rather simply maintaining old/legacy systems. I am looking at teams where there are enough technical challenges with respect to scalability. I have seen the careers page but would like to get some first hand information before i can make a decision.
If I can give a small piece of advice, follow money and not this idealistic notion of finding good teams. I did this. Through a referral, I routed my resume to a team I wanted. I have experience for that role and knew I wouldn’t have any issues with system design or behavioral rounds. I slummed through leetcode and aced the interview. I did my interviews very well and got an offer. It was a match made in heaven - good work in a great company. Where did it go wrong then? I said to myself I want to be here and didn’t interview anywhere. Turns out they give a standard lowball offer if you don’t have other offers. I’m pissed at them for this ridiculous policy and myself for being too idealistic
And did you take up the offer?
Yea, I signed it because it’s in a team I want to be :( However, I’ve started interviewing again. Best case, fb will renegotiate. Worst case - bridges burnt.
Quite a few. The source control team that is rewriting our servers in rust (aka project Mononoke) to handle our crazy scale is based in London. Some very sharp folks there. Also the Sapienz team doing automatic static analysis and verification at scale s also in London.
I've heard there are backed opportunities in infrastructure, ads engineering, whatsapp, scribe. I'm doubtful of whatsapp backed team being in London? Is this information correct?
Yeah there's some WhatsApp folks in London working on the server.
