I notice that: E5=M0 E6=M1 E7=M2 ... But it seems that after that point, while the management has very clear levels after that (director, etc.), there isn't much talk about E8+. If someone has better info just lmk 👍🏻
E8s exist, they're just not common. Comp should still be equiv
Yes, the comp is exactly the same at the equivalent levels, but there is a much clearer career path for management (and arguably easier to move to a degree). For example, M0 gets paid the same as E5 but there's a soft expectation to go M0->M1 in around a year. Meanwhile E5 is a terminal level for many, and it's much harder to go E5->E6 than M0->M1.
I flunked E7 interview but compensation was 900+
Imho, management roles also come with more power and prestige.
Manager for the same job family gets paid little higher than ic
Not at Facebook or google.
Do Facebook managers typically get paid much more wcat?
For the sake of consistency and ease, our compensation team uses the same salary bands both the equivalent IC/M roles across nearly every job in the company (except for special positions). IC1 IC2 IC3 (where engineering starts) IC4 = L1 (Lead) IC5 = L2 (Sr Lead) = M0 (Jr Manager) IC6 = M1 IC7 = M2 (Sr Manager) IC8 = D1 IC9 = D2 (Sr Director) IC10 = VP1 VP2 (Sr VP) VP3 (Executive VP / CxO)
Wait, so are you saying a recruiting director, or a physical security manager make the same as their engineering equivalents!!
Only in terms of salary bands. Equity varies depending on the role. Also don’t forget that non-eng roles start at IC1 instead of IC3. But yes, I confirmed that a high level recruiter IC does in fact make as much as their engineering counterpart.
Do IC5/IC6 report to M0 ever?
Yes. I’ve reported to a M0 as an IC5. It’s in theory possible for a higher level IC to report to a lower level M equivalent (especially at higher IC levels), but usually that’s not the case.
Hmm the ladders are clearly not equivalent. I mean managers clearly have more power /higher on the pickieng order than their IC counterparts
