Facebook: Menlo Park or Seattle?

Got an offer from FB for their rotational SWE program. Recruiter asked me if I want to work in MPK or Seattle. Is there more opportunity in MPK than Seattle? What kind of teams are in MPK? At the same time, I heard living in the Bay Area sucks. Also I currently pay no rent in Seattle since I live with family and there's no state income tax so I'd be saving at least 40k/year.

Seattle. But move out.

Living with family is a smart choice! No opinion on your question otherwise. Just wanted to comment about the smart decision you’ve made so far. (Assumption is, of course, that it works for you. And congratulations on this too. It isn’t possible for a lot out there)

Seattle, no brainer. SF rent takes half of your TC away unless you have a home or rent with 6 other people.

Money wise Seattle makes more sense.

Seattle no question. Bay area is a filthy shit hole dump. Seattle is going its best to be as bad as the bay area but not quite there yet at least.

Bay Area is not a filthy shit hole, that's mostly isolated to SF & Oakland. It is however very expensive and boring. From what I hear Seattle is also expensive and boring. The extent to which is possibly a bit less.

Yeah everyone I know that moved from the bay to Seattle is very bored...few already have plans to come back.

Menlo Park campus is amazing but it's hard to get to and rent nearby is really expensive.
