Facebook Negotiations

I spoke with FB recruiter today a week after onsite and had a very tentative offer of 180 base, 250 stock, 15% bonus (so TC 270). This isn’t a huge jump from what I make now but it is enough that staying at MSFT would be silly.

My questions are:
(1) has anyone had luck with negotiating with Facebook? Even +5k on base? Or should I just go for stock?
(2) is this worth trying to take back to MFST and get them to match or exceed? Has anyone been successful with that?
(3) is there anything MSFT does benefits wise that is worth using as leverage during FB negotiations?

Thanks all!

I got an offer for E4 ($155k/$300k/$50k) and was not able to negotiate despite having multiple other offers, including Google T4 ($160k/$500k/$25k). They won’t budge. They probably didn’t believe these numbers.

Recruiter told my 160 is as high as they go E4. I was also offered 300 like you and told that's top of band, But I've heard people Here say they go as high as 350.

Grats on that killer Google offer btw, damn.

Yup. Actually I was very reluctant to work for Facebook for a few reasons. But I had to get a few solid competing offers to get a great offer from Google

The stock is way too low for the 180 base, don't try to negotiate base, but they surely can do better for stock

    Is this for E4 / E5?

Tbh, not sure yet. I recently was promoted to 62 at MSFT but am under-leveled. I am hoping for E5

      It's e5, e4 has lower target bonus

Looks like L5 based on the 180k base.

    2. Don’t accept counter offers.
    3. Msft has a better 401k match but it’s unlikely that this would help with negotiation.

Try not to judge so much on this because I’ve done a lot of work and been promoted quickly... PhD and 2 years of work experience total at startup and microsoft

Absolutely not judging, just checking if it's clear low-ball. The base and the stocks don't add up. Check with your recruiter what level is this for.

That is consistent with my experience at MSFT too and why I wanted to check (thank you!). Any estimate on what I should ask for with the stock?

Based on this https://www.teamblind.com/article/stop-asking-for-tech-company-offer-numbers-read-this-and-thank-me-sN8uYpop it looks like I'm in E5 and being uber lowballed on stock. Interesting.

Yeah I think you could easily push the stocks over 350

Weird. Base is E5 but RSU grant is lower than E4 offers.

    No signing bonus?

This was a preliminary “estimate” from the recruiter so I am not sure if they will have a signing bonus. Can’t believe they wouldn’t give one... I had one for Microsoft.

Knowing that the RSU grant is lower than E4 is huge for me, just to be able to talk to the recruiter. Thank you!

This Seems to be a really good offer for someone with 2 years of experience. Remember this is not for SWE role.

People here seem to be missing that this is DS offer which seems to be decently lower than SWE. There are some data points on blind for phds for DS at Facebook. OP are you for analytics or core/ML team?

DS - but yeah... I wouldn’t have guessed it was too low. Thanks for chiming in. I think it must be E5 because the bonus is at 15%
