What is the difference in pay between network engineer and a network infrastructure engineer?
Network infrastructure engineer is mostly likely a SWE role, while network engineer is not.
The recruiter said the infrastructure engineer was more like an operations position. Is operations considered 2nd class to network engineer?
FB network infrastructure engineer used to be called Network Ops. Other network engineer roles are more design/planning. They all operate under the same pay bands. It’s definitely not considered 2nd tier at FB. Sharp group of folks with a good combo background of SWE + traditional networking. They’re automating most of what is done manually elsewhere. Edit: I think one of the reasons why they changed the name from Network Ops is to avoid perception of lower tier work.
What's the salary range for network engineer in Seattle n Bay area ?
Check Glassdoor or Paysa. I’d guess 110 to 230 base (junior to principal eng) for the Bay Area, excluding equity/bonus.
