Facebook PM offer evaluation

I have 8 years experience. 5.5 as a dev, 2.5 as a PM. L64 at Microsoft.

Facebook's initial PM offer is L4. When I asked for the range based on that new disclosure law they mentioned 228k total comp - 160 base, 10% bonus, 180k RSU, 30k singing.

Also have a competing offer at Lyft for 380k total. 185k base and 780k RSU.

The Facebook offer is actually lower that my current pay and we'll below Lyft even if I discount that stock by 60%. How much can higher can have FB offer go at L4 or if I get them to switch to L5?

Will need to try to get L5 then. All 8 of y years of experience are in good tech companies. And engineering. Let's see how this goes

Really? Are they using my lower time as a PM for to previous engineering roles to low ball me?

I think they are just matching your msft comp with the average comp of fb at L4.

I see. They did mention shorter time as a PM though as the reason for L4. Unsure if that is just a negotiating tactic

You should try to get to L5. They already maxed out the offer can be put on L4.

Tell them this offer is lower than what you make currently, and say you’ve a much better competing offer at a pre-IPO unicorn you’re seriously considering unless fb makes an attractive offer of $300k plus.

Yes I plan too. Just wondering if they will budge since I have less pm experience and more dev experience and the offer is for PM

Former fb Pm here. My two cents: Unlikely but you can try, how will it hurt? Good to know lyfts numbers though. Any reason you don’t want lyft?

Will most likely pick Lyft if the FB offer does not improve. What are top end L4 and L5 PM offers at FB (base/stock/signing)?

It might depend on negotiations tbh, I think the deal they have given you is pretty standard

Hi, this post was super helpful. Would love to hear your advice on my situation. I have 7 years total experience, 4 years of which are product management. I was verbally offered a PM role at Facebook at level 4. I am already a level 5 and told them this will be a step down for me. Any tips on negotiating level? What salary should I expect? Base plus bonus plus RSU?

Sorry for not seeing this sooner so this reply is mostly for others looking for info in the future. FB budged a bit on all numbers but not level. Ultimately I decided to stay put at Microsoft and take a better opportunity for long term grown and short term comp

It is not a range or negotiating issue. It is a level issue. FB simply gave you a lower level. You can't negotiate that with recruiter. I had similar situation. Google TC was higher since they appreciated me more (i.e higher level). It is just what the FB leveling God decided. Go to where they value you more.

Sounds like it. It seems like this level may actually not be set in stone though. Hearing a few cases where that was negotiated or a successful case made for it to be changed.
