Facebook Rotational Engineer

I saw a posting for this on LinkedIn. Anyone at FB have more information on how this works? Supposedly it’s meant for “non-traditional” candidates, which also apparently includes experienced engineers from non-tech companies (for example, myself, at a bank?). What would an interview be like for such a position? Same leetcode stuff? And what happens at the end of the year? Is it like an internship where you may or may not be kept around permanently?

Bank is pretty fucking traditional..

Banks are not tech companies though (no matter how much they like to proudly proclaim that they are these days).

When I interviewed, I interviewed as a regular software engineer but they gave me an offer for this program. I think the interview is likely the same for both. As far as the program goes, You go through 8-10 weeks of bootcamp like normal software engineers Then you join 2 teams for 5 month rotations, you don’t count as headcount for this so it makes it easier to get a manager on a team you like to say yes. The objective at the end of the year is that you get a mid level e4 offer, like 90% of the people that did both rotations do get this. Sometimes people finish after 1 rotation as well. If you finish after 1 rotation you have 3 options: 1. Go to bootcamp and decide which team you want to work full time on 2. Join the team you did a rotation for if they want you and they have headcount 3. Say no to the offer after rotation 1, and continue on to do rotation 2 At the end of the year, if you don’t get an offer your role at facebook ends. If you do get an offer after 2 rotations you have option 1 and 2 above

Hi thanks for the reply. Other than getting a broader exposure of teams, and potentially getting to work in a team of your choosing, why else would someone in your position choose this program vs. a standard SWE role? Sounds like you’re sacrificing job security So not likely the interview is any bit easier? That said, I suppose it’s not all that too uncommon for engineers to switch companies after two years? Even at FAANG?

The interview isn’t easier, but... I believe they are little more lenient with under-performers. The program is great for anyone who doesn’t interview great but there is a good chance they will perform great at FB
