Facebook SWE 5 Week bootcamp

What can I expect in the 5 week Swe boot camp in Menlo park? Do I need to prepare anything in advance? Will they again reconsider my job offer if I don't do well? Are there any open ended exercises or tests? Help much appreciated.

Are you in Seattle office? I'm incoming and the recruiter told me only the first two days of orientation would be in MPK, rest in Seattle. But anyways, I've heard it's just mostly onboarding and trying out teams for the most part. They don't reconsider your offer or anything, it's similar to training.

My entire 5 week is in MPK... I was just not sure if I should brush up any skills .. like web .. php etc

You just go to lectures about how stuff is done at FB in your area of speciality, and maybe, depending on your level, how things are done in general. The you go around the place checking out teams, and then you commit to one. It’s not a second interview process or anything like that.

What does the mentor do? I have heard I will be given tasks and all... Challenging much?

The mentor's job is just to help you, answer any questions you may have, and guide you through the team selection process. Don't worry about bootcamp at all. The only purpose of bootcamp is to ramp you up on Facebook tech, and do a few small to medium sized tasks to get acquainted with coding at Facebook. You can't "fail" bootcamp unless you do extremely poorly (like if you can't write any code at all).

Chill bootcamp is really easy just went through it this year myself. Mostly classes first 2 weeks, and you do some random small tasks for random teams. Very easy self contained things. Final weeks are a few classes but mostly doing team match which largely involves doing small tasks for them and meeting the managers. No need to prepare at all if you're a capable coder.

Yeah leave the brushing up for boot camp. The mentor is just there to answer questions and help you feel more integrated with Facebook culture and stuff.

With the amount of times this question gets asked on Blind, I feel like our recruiters are really doing a terrible job at getting this across. Bootcamp is NOT another interview. I've heard Google started doing some second interview thing for new grads where you try out for teams, this is not like that. It's super chill, you don't really have to do any work if you don't want to, but it's still worth putting some effort in so you can find good teams etc. You can basically skip all the classes if you really wanted to, but again, I would recommend going because there is a lot to learn, and you can meet the rest of your cohort.
