I am a engineering manager at Capital One and I am interviewing at Facebook. I’m trying to figure out the level that I am interviewing for. My recruiter told me that I would have a couple of coding interviews, a system design interview, a product design interview and I behavioral interview. She said repeatedly that this is a senior level position that Facebook doesn’t recruit externally for that much. She also said that the emphasis wouldn’t be as much on my coding as much as the behavioral interview and the systems interviews. Now, from my research that doesn’t sound like an E6 role because the bar for coding is still high I’m guessing. Does this sound like a TLM or M0 role? They don’t seem to advertise those roles if they exist which I guess could means they are reserved for internal candidates.
M0 is almost always an internal transition. You're most likely being recruited for M1
Oh ok. Thank you for the input.
I guess there is a 3rd option that kinda adds up and that would be an E6. I didn’t think about it. I do have 10+ years of experience.
Also TLM isn’t an official job title. TLMs are mostly M1/ M2.
Gotcha
Based on the interviews you mentioned, this would not be a manager position. My guess would be either an E5 or E6 role. It will depend on how you do in the interviews.
Fair enough.
Is the bar for coding the same for e6 ? Or do they get lenient about coding as seniority increases.
Closing the loop on this, it was for an E6 role. I didn't get in this time and honestly I was a bit surprised because the questions weren’t super difficult. I was call them leetcode easy. Maybe the culture interview didn't go well. Beats me. I'll try again next year.
Same happened to me, I excelled in system & product design as well as behavioral. Coding didn’t give strong signals to hire, which was surprising to because problems weren’t difficult and they also said coding bar is low and won’t be a decision maker. Recruiter then recommended me to talk to to EM role recruiter.
YOE and current role at CO?
