Facebook WLB

Hi folks - have an offer for M1 manager role in FB Seattle, currently L66 managing team of 20 in msft, most weeks I put in roughly 45 hours. Of course I've been here awhile and it's pretty chilled, Wondering how bad it's going to be in FB... Any insights please? Is it regularly 50+ hours, does it go to 60+, how about weekend work. Oh and before anyone screams - current TC 405, FB TC 490.

With that amount of money being paid to you, I wouldn’t mind working 50+ hours. Just take it or leave it.

Ur not making that at fb? U must be a new grad

Or you have a bit exaggerated info about comp at FB :)

Not worth the added stress

Not a huge TC jump. I would stick with msft. Msft is chill.

What’s salary and stock grant in FB offer?

Microsoft Zuzi Jun 24, 2018

Doesn’t seem like a big enough bump in salary to justify the hassle, especially if your commute is going to get a lot worse too. I’m impressed Microsoft salaries get so decent at 66!

WLB depends on the team and mostly you. Choose good team, don't be pushed around and you'll be fine.

Microsoft Losid Jun 24, 2018

Consider all the friend convo and stuff. Staying at Microsoft seems good if you got good relationship with your bosses. The increase in TC really does not justify the extra hassle and stress and at your level, I assume the power of having Facebook/google on your resume doesn't mean much anymore.

Not worth it for 85k more, if you like your job you should stay there.

Facebook TCYOE Jun 24, 2018

Despite what everyone is saying, I think it’s worth it. Brand name for future ventures, more interesting work potentially, and a possibly smarter team that can help push you further. There is also a big push right now to set up great management tools and services.

Thanks what's a typical well like for you? (In hours)

WLB depends on the team, but it’s all relative to each other - not necessarily outside of FB. So in general be prepared to put in 50-60 hours at least

Microsoft Losid Jun 24, 2018

man... I can put in 30 hours of work at Microsoft and still exceed the goal... I guess I need to bounce now for a heavy TC increase and come back when I can make 400k at Microsoft...

Microsoft chux Jun 25, 2018

50-60 at least sounds stressful indeed
