Is it to late to start a career at FB if I'm around 40? L5/6 m0/1 lvl? Is wlb going to suck as younger/no kids colleagues would stay until late and I'll have to do the same? I feel like I'm 30 and have lots of experience and energy. Would appl/goog be the same?
If you join Infra teams, most people are above 30
Same wlb across all engineering?
It’s too late. They don’t hire anyone over 35
How about PMs or TPMs? Do they also slog like this?
Tpm generally no. Every PM I've worked with is doing crazy hours
Thx. How’s the overall comparison between PM and TPM roles there. Prestige, comp, growth opportunities etc. And assuming you were in Google before, how do these roles compare to the ones in Google along the same dimensions?
Avoid product teams as median age will be < 25. You'll be fine in infra, integrity and other groups.
Not too late at all. Joined at 37, now 41. Infra has lots of older engineers, at least more so than product. WLB is great for me.
What sort of work does infra team do ? Wha type of roles are open in the infra team?
Infra and PE are great with a significant number of older engineers. Choose the right team and you’ll be fine.
What does PE stand for here?
What teams does infra include? Recruiting tools, etc?
There are plenty of ppl above 30s. This is the biggest difference I've noticed between FB and Google though. At FB you will stand out a bit. Not in a bad way, but you'll stand out. At Google, you really don't. FBs people I found to be more rambunctious and immature. The number of white dudes that styled their hair, their skin and their wardrobe to look like Zuck was truly creepy.
Dont join fb, your personal life will be screwed. wlb is terrible. Dont want to sound racist but its mostly because of majority asian work force and a cultish environment.
Is it the same in US vs Europe(LDN)
Idk about london, but in states it’s pretty bad. 60 hours work week is considered normal
