Hi blind, I need your guidance on this. Does anyone know what the policy is around pre-allocated vs general hires when it comes to location? They recruited me for a specific role in a specific CA location. I originally said I was open to it, interviewed, now I have an offer. I realize now I *really* don’t want to move. What happens if I say i want to join but I can’t move and I’m open to SEA roles? I asked my recruiter and she was super vague and said that she would consider it but it might involve further interviews. Do you know if I might lose the offer entirely if I say I can’t move and ask for a role in Seattle ?
If you killed the interview it'll be easier for you to make the case. If the interview was so-so to slightly bad, the HM can make a case to CR to make an offer due to your domain knowledge. In that case you will probably need follow ups.
This sounds likely to what happened. My interview was ok, not spectacular, but I have specialized domain knowledge and they really need someone in this role that’s been open 9 months. Makes me think that if I tried to look for another role in a diff location it would fall apart.
Generally if it is preallocated then the offer is contingent on you joining the team. For general hires, you are expected to stay at that location for some time before moving. In rare cases, the recruiter can change the location.
This is helpful, thanks. Sounds like it’s move or keep looking unfortunately.
