I recently had an onsite with FB. I could not produce a bug free solution for one of the coding questions and the other was okay. System design, product architecture and behavioral , all went good but it was really very unpredictable, interviewers din’t show a sign of like or dislike. What are my chances? It was for E5. Will they evaluate my other interviews or coding should be the most important. Honestly, 6 months of preparation and then this has really made me very disappointed. TC: 150
Probably a follow up interview for you along with a downlevel to E4 considering this was part of the coding portion Fyi E4 standard comp is still around 250K
Interviewers are always polite and encouraging. They are not supposed to show you signs of like or dislike. I think your chances are slim because you probably misinterpreted your responses (given that you had trouble judging the interviewers reactions).
I see! Well, I did not interpret my responses at all, I was genuinely engaged in the process and explained whatever I knew honestly. Yeah right, they are not supposed to show a direct sign of like/dislike but still based on their engagement with your solution one can infer how the interview is going. Thats what I cant do when I reflect back on my interview, which is making me anxious! Lets see , hope to get it.
My interviewers sure weren’t.
Coding has no bearing on E4 vs E5. Only career and sys design weigh on that. If you bombed both, game over. If you bombed one, but everything else is decent, you will have another chance as follow up.
There are usually 2 questions per round. You should have 2 coding rounds. Did you get all 3 and just miss one one?
I asked my interviewers how many questions they expected to get through and one said 1 and the other said 2, so it varies.
Just missed one
That sounds like a rejection.
Rejected
Will be rejected most likely. Let us know otherwise...
Nah man, has to be not only bug free but the most optimal solution.
A follow up interview will be the best outcome here. But I don't know its chance, it depends on what interviewers decide during their meeting.

Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?

What’s your yoe ? My friend got in as a l4 with one coding interview that didn’t go perfectly , he did solve but couldn’t answer follow up questions
7 yoe! My second coding dint go very well, we talked a lot, i discussed solution but at the end code had a bug and dint produce expected output
Maybe you will get in as a low L5 or a upper end L4. Still should pay a lot more than cap one . Good luck !!👍 Edit - friend had 5-6 yoe
