A FB engineer commented on how the recent suicide is muted internally, people who knew the person were muffled, and to seek counseling if affected. This is how dictatorship works. Hide all bad incidents, deflect blame, and prosecute anyone who speaks up, just like N Korea or CPC. It makes me angry. Why are we not allowed to talk about this, why are FB employees, who are stakeholders in the company, not allowed to know or improve the situation? Most importantly, why are you so scared to speak up? This is the EXACT problem Blind is trying to solve and now we have a way of speaking up, but you guys are still too scared
Why is op so mad? Maybe the guy was just depressed
In before privacy argument: People say that when things like mass shootings happen, we should keep quiet because "privacy" and not address the issue
This country is all about fake it till you make it, if they cant fake it, they die. what do you expect? I am willing to bet that fb will never acknowledge the mass depression it helped create through psychological torture of fake people posting fake shit
TripAdvisor, need a referral ?
not sure if this is sarcastic or not, but i would only consider same or better WLB
dafuq u think u know about CPC? u should be angry ur brainwashed
"Generally speaking research has found that the greater the coverage of a suicide story the greater the chances of finding a copycat effect." Media Coverage as a Risk Factor in Suicides https://jech.bmj.com/content/57/4/238 Instead of calling it a dictatorship, maybe learn about the issue in general and the actual studied effects of media coverage regarding suicide. It is sad this happened.
Alright, but why doesnt fb practice the same principles on its platform? The copycat theory of faking it in the world has caused depression and suicidal thoughts among masses, who couldnt afford to fake it. too many depressing posts on facebook could increase the suicide risk too. Better to shut the shithole company before its too late
This is about someone taking their life today. The link I provided starts out talking about practices going back to the 1700's and studies since 1970's after Marylin Monroe's. Since long ago. If you want to make it about a company you dislike, that speaks about you. Also, what you see on facebook is often a reflection on what you click on and are interested in (you see too many depressing posts). I prefer to click on comedy and inspirational messages. That primarily what comes up in my feed. These are tools and depends on how you use them. Some people make their livelyhood and run businesses from the platform. The same with most AI algorithms, present you with what you are look for, so they reflect what you choose to spend your time on.
Yes we are scared to talk about it with a random TripAdvisor employee
Do Facebook employees know who was the employee and the reason for the suicide?
Facebook employees were not even told about the cause of death. We found out only from external news.
That‘s the whole point of this fucking post. It‘sthe elephant in the room. Facebook employees themselves don‘t know, and ones that do cannot speak up. The company doesn‘t want to directly address it
Reporting suicide can lead to copy cats. Maybe that’s why they don’t want to talk about it. I think in some countries there’s a gentlemen’s agreement in journalism not to report suicides.
So someone is going to commit suicide just because someone else did it? Is this like some new fad like the Tidepod challenge?
I think Amazon is correct.
