Im lucky enough to have offers for a SWE internship at both. I want to work distributed systems in the future. Pay is not a priority but HRT is offering much higher.

Which do you think would be a better learning experience/ would look better on a resume?

HRT! It's much more selective than FB and talent level is much higher.

Also he can easily get a full-time offer from F/G if he doesn’t like HRT - other way around is not at all true

I completely agree that this person can get a fb offer.. but Facebook is difficult to get your foot in the door.. they have many layers before approval.. they get many orders of magnitude more applications than HRT gets.. and OP did mention he wants distributed systems experience.. not sure what's more distributed than FB

The point is this person can just get an offer at FB or G whenever they want if they decide to. It’s not the same with HRT so they should take the internship

Microsoft, you brought up the point of selectivity. You’re deviating from that argument

Lol fb interviews were way easier for me than HRT (passed both so I went through all steps lol). HRT tests far more than leet code

I think FB's main strength here is its brand name, and the fact that it will be recognised wider than HRT (and they'd probably still get interviews wherever they want)
However, any company that doesn't recognise HRT is probably not a company you want to work for anyways.
Like other have said, HRT is more selective and prestigious to those who know of both companies, so this seems like a no-brainer

Tech recruiters will know HRT. It’s a lot more prestigious and rare

HRT summer internship was just started last year and was tremendously successful. Amazing projects in prod with great learning experiences. Highly recommend it over fb, which is a very variable experience. You will certainly learn distributed systems at hrt and systems development far greater in depth.

HRT would be nice, plus 13k is legit for an intern

HRT obviously- I know a few great engineers who didn’t get in there - don’t know about culture though

HRT, pay progression (assuming you care to come back for full-time) at FB is garbage unless you get lucky
