Facebook’s Future - Sink, Float or Rise?

Oct 17 11 Comments

What is Facebook’s gameplan for the future? Out of all FAANG companies, I feel it is least poised to stay relevant in the future. Amazon is growing, Apple has it’s Apple sheep and people who need/want hardware changes, Google is still no. 1 search engine and nobody cares about Netflix (lol) but what about Facebook — which is still a giant and in the race.

Their latest innovations include Libra coin and Facebook dating but I do not see my traction in either spheres. Active FB users in developed countries is going down. Instagram and Whatsapp are thriving but I do not see a revenue stream in Whatsapp (everything is free with no ads and there are a ton of alternatives). Occulus does not have a crazy adoption either.

So far their own domain of success seems to be Instagram and Facebook in developing countries (with limited opportunites of monetization in the latter)

So what do you think will happen to Facebook in the next 5-10 years? Will it sink, float or rise?

They haven’t entered airbnb & trip advisor worlds. Imagine linking them with whatsapp (in asia whatsapp is used for business) and instagram... right now the whole experience is all over the place. This is not to say i want ads on whatsapp, but for business. Think wechat.

FB isn’t going anywhere but the exponential growth period is over. Good if you want stability and fit with the culture.

When you are the founder/majority shareholder, you ensure that your baby survives or die trying. This is true of any venture, but particularly so in tech.

Combine that with a stable revenue model, a few globally-significant products, plus a steady flow of strong candidates and you have a long run ahead of you.
