Facebook's background check?

I have a friend who just got an offer from FB, and he had two jobs this year. The first job he got fired from and now he is in his second job and doing well. What does Facebook look for in a background check? He is worried they will find out he got fired in his previous role. Do they ask for references? And can you opt not to get employment checked by employer but rather by W2 pay stubs?

I just wanted to know how stringent FB's background check is.

Edit.) Not for me but for my SO.

Thanks!

    OP,
Don't worry! They do have access to a system where they can check every W2, so they can and will know EVERY job tagged to a SSN, whether you give permission or not.

But the report doesn't show firings. It'll show the last paycheck (and every hidtorical bi-weekly paycheck) with them and job title. That's it.

SO do don't lie on the job title. It's amazingly accurate to the last paycheck and the job titles mesh well, even promotions to the date.

    • This is illegal. They can’t do this legally, especially in CA, where employees are fully protected -:)

IBM, it's part of the background app. The Work Number is part off Equifax and each pay check and job title will show up. This whole report is added in the package HireRight gives to its client.

    • Wow, just, wow. I was not fully aware. Thanks. Something not legally right about this though. What’s about employee’s right to consent to have such information ‘implied’ and ultimately disclosed in the package. Anyways my 2 cents.

Ibm, Agreed!! But it's shared any ways! I looked at my background package (you can elect to see it). Everything you thought secret is on there. EVERYTHING! The background check company even UNBLACKED my blacked out edits on the digital W2 I submitted. My whole W2 was exposed. They literally HACKED my W2 to see everything! How can that not be illegal!? But they did it anyways and submitted it to the company.

    Do they ask for references?
Yes. But u decide who u want as reference.

And can you opt not to get employment checked by employer but rather by W2 pay stubs?
Yes. U can choose not to contact previous employer and provide pay stubs or W2s

Btw your TC and your "friend's" TC. It's okay if they r the same 😂

They will probably find out he worked there, unless he was working there illegally. They are unlikely to find out he was fired though.

Actually, it’s likely the opposite. The background check company won’t know where he worked, but if he tells them where he worked they will likely be able to find out if he is eligible for rehire.

How exactly would they find out that he was fired? Explain the mechanics of the background check since you seem knowledgeable about it?

How will they find if he’s eligible for rehire? No company will reveal that info, unless it’s a mom and pop shop and the info is certainly not available publicly. If you get paid from a company though, it’s available in your social security info and a background check gives them permission to get that.

They probably won’t care or find out that he got fired.

They mostly want to see the places you’ve lived and if you’ve ever been to prison
