My failures thus far this past year, roughly in chronological order. This includes HackerRank, phone screen, or on-site.

    Microsoft (not a team fit)
2 transfers in Amazon (I was already dev listed)
    Facebook
    Bittrex
    Finagraph
    Indeed
    Blackstone (twice)
    Lyft
    Uber
    BitGo
    Compass
    Google (on-site)
    Square (on-site)
Airbnb (actually I declined the invite to redo the phone screen)
    Citadel (contractor)
Microsoft (met the HM via direct referral, who wanted me to apply but ghosted me once I did)
    Oracle CI
    Millennium Management
Two Sigma (I was too burned out to finish the HackerRank)
    PIMCO
    Bloomberg (contractor)
Microsoft (failed graph problem on phone screen)
Microsoft (failed an easy algo I could have normally done, but choked from the exhaust of doing this)

I think that’s it. Plus many ignored applications via LinkedIn or direct, though not a ton because I don’t spam.

I’ll keep this updated with my upcoming failures. I have 4 on the calendar right now.

** Update: I finally have an offer. I’ll be leaving Seattle and returning to NYC. Can’t reveal it here.

    • how did you get into Amazon?
      Jan 17
    • Amazon / Eng jNeo42
Yes, I’ve tried to hide my age on my resume. As you can see, I get interviews. I just can’t get many on-site invites and then no offers. Amazon hired me because their bar was obviously lower 2 years ago, though my on-site with them was my lucky day as I did quite well. But that was then, things have changed in 2 years. 2 years means a million new engineers in the US looking for work at the better gigs. 2 years from now it will be even harder, and TC for everyone is sure to drop by then. I obviously should move on and do something else, like a junior level TPM role. Most every engineer I’ve ever worked with thinks I’m great (now with the exception of only a few at Amazon), but that doesn’t get you a job or even a promotion. My god, how the mighty can fall.

You still have many good choices, google, Facebook, Airbnb, Lyft, indeed, Pinterest, stripe... Even fail in all, you can try again next year. improve yourself and keep trying. You will find your dream job.

Lack of preparation mostly because of refusal to accept the existing interview process of asking dp/backtracking questions

What do you think went wrong with the Intuit interview? Was it phone or onsite?
    Jan 17 1
    • Walmart.com jqplg43
      OP
On-site. With Intuit, it was a couple of really bad interviewers who came unprepared and weren't really interested in being there. When I looked up their profile, they have been with Intuit for a long time which made sense given their attitude and questions.
