I recently took the Airbnb hackerrank test and was rejected saying that I can try again after 1 year. I was using an IDE to type up the solution and it crashed in the middle and I had to retype most of the code again. Few test cases were failing due to a copy paste error and I had to submit the code as the time was up. I got the failing test cases working within 5 mins after the timer ended. If it wasn't for the crash, I would have made it. I sent the working code to the recruiter in an email immediately. Since there were failing test cases in the original submitted code, I am guessing that nobody looked at the code and it was an automatic rejection. I feel that if this was a phone interview I would have easily made it. I replied to the rejection email explaining what happened and requested for a 15 min follow up call with someone in the hiring team. Still waiting for a reply. I really feel that I can be a great fit at Airbnb. I got through the Google interview and we are working on team match. I also have the Facebook and Uber on-site interviews coming up. I was really hoping for at least an on-site interview with Airbnb. What would you folks advice? Is there a way to get another interview/test chance or shall I move on?
Sounds like you hate Microsoft so much..
It's time for a change after 5 years at MSFT 😀
Why so set on Airbnb. They are not going public anytime soon. Go with FB or google as safe options or Uber as a higher risk higher reward option
Don't they tell you practice a little on hackerrank first? The ide on hackerrank is fine for interview questions. By using your own ide you have made yourself more problems than needed. Why would Airbnb care that you decided to ignore the ide provided to use your own then you had problems
I think you are right. I shouldn't have used my IDE. Will keep this in mind going forward. They gave the option to do phone interview or the hackerrank test. I also feel like phone interview might be better as you can explain your approach and thought process. I understand that It may vary from person to person.
For phone interview they do not care about approach or thought process, you have to write a solution passing tests as well.
If it's not meant to happen then it won't happen and don't be too upset about it....You already have good options and if you don't like G/F/U then try it again next year.
Makes sense.....All the very best for the on-site!!!
You still have a chance. The hacker rank interviews are a new format and they're not perfect. We know that.
Do you have advice on making it to Hackerrank stage? I have an internship and a good gpa from a small school but failed the resume screen.
@Rmashburn...... Can you please elaborate on "you still have a chance". In the rejection email the recruiter said I can try again in one year. I am assuming I won't hear back on the "hey my IDE crashed but I would love to work at Airbnb" email. Appreciate your response. Thanks.
It sounds like you're already doing what you can. If you get a follow up call, focus more on how much you want to be at Airbnb than the failed IDE. If you don't get a follow up call, sorry man, that just sucks :(
I think it is a good advice to focus on " how much I want to work at Airbnb"... Thanks
Sorry this happened. You could mention that you passed Google and think you're a really good cultural fit (this is super important at airbnb). I don't know if it would make a difference though, I don't have any visibility into what happens there.
You failed the interview. You mailed them that your ide crashed. You are still waiting for reply. What is exactly that you want from us? Reassurance that everything will be ok? You already have 2 interviews. Fuck airbnb. And move on
Thank you for your reply. The point of my post is to figure out if there is another way to get another chance at Airbnb without waiting a year. I am assuming that I will not get a reply to "hey my IDE crashed" email as it sounds like an excuse.
