A friend of mine failed their senior design course this spring semester. This means they won't be receiving their degree. They were intending on starting at Microsoft starting this July. The offer is contingent on them receiving the degree. The background process had already been initiated. What are some options they can take? Could they push the start date from July to December to retake that course?
Your friend could come ask. Or possibly study more.
Talk to your hiring manager, if they are cool with it, your friend should be fine.
Thanks!

How did they fail senior design? That’s a really bad sign
