Reading a design book and this was directly quoted in the ethics section: "We are paid a ton. Looking forward to my yearly bonus of $100k. Fuck ethics. Money is everything." -anonymous Facebook employee on blind Are people this easily bought? It was depressing to see our community being known for this, though unsurprising and honest.
Iโd rather be bought with X + 100k yearly bonus than minimum wage at McDonalds with no health insurance. ๐คทโโ๏ธ
If you're at the point in the ball game, your other offers wouldn't be minimum wage at McDonald's
Yes, why do you think there have been so many "reforms" as people learn about crap Facebook, Google and apple are doing.
What crap is Google and Apple doing? Thought they were trying to reform with the Q and 13 giving back user back control on data services like location.
Did they do that out of the goodness of their hearts or to prevent a or disaster? I feel like I've read things in the news in the past few years but can't cite anything for you.
Ethics are like universal laws but which ainโt on a paper. As long as it is not on paper, fuck ethics (aka long live capitalism).
Wow, you don't believe in finding meaning through your work? There are many companies that have missions that have changed the world for the better.
lol my sweet summer child, all companies have one mission: to make money for the people who control the company. Mission is just some bullshit they sell.
I realized at my last job that a lot of these companies have a high concentration of sociopaths, psychopaths, machiavels, bullies, assholes, and liars. The world is not a nice place, and naive, good people often get railroaded by these types of people because they give them the benefit of the doubt for too long. So no, this quote doesn't surprise me. Fuck those people though. Do whatever you can to shine a light on them when you come across them.
Amen to this. ๐๐ป The paths especially run this place as they can fake empathy but their predatory like, size you up gaze can give it away. How did you realize this? How can one shine a light on these people who use other people as their resources?
I spent all my energy focused on exposing these people. Telling the CEO and CTO about their bullshit. It ended up seriously burning me out to the point of quitting, but now I'm getting a better job and nearly all of those people don't work at the company anymore. Oddly enough, upper management did nothing to actually fix the issue like fire them or hold them accountable, but it damaged their reputation enough that they realized their next title grab was unlikely to happen. I don't regret it at all, but it takes a personal toll. You will probably look like a complainer, even though you are doing the company a service.
genuinely confused. OP basically made up this entire thread on a lie. Not all FB employees feel that way, (and you can't even confirm those who posted that were even FB employees at the time) and not all apple employees are ethical either. To each their own.
if you really think the majority of the company feels that way, that is a sad outlook on life.
Fuck ethics - Nope โ Money is everything - Yep โ๏ธ
Which design book ?
He literally made this up
Really? Because I literally can take a photo and already revealed the title in the comments. You feel good about using your energy to diminish others? I also said I'm willing to bet you $100k the quote is in the book. You haven't taken up my bet yet.
