Embedded software developer Tc: 105k Relocation:5k Yoe:3 Location: Bay area No stocks or rsu People with my experience make 1.5 times as much and a good chunk in stocks. I feel the only way I can now escape being low balled is by getting an MBA from a good school. Will a weekend mba from a good school be sufficient for moving into general management or marketing or anything that can pay me well. All I want is enough to buy a house and fend for my kids, I don't mind moving out of the bay area.
We need to help him find a path to improve. What's everyone's suggestions?
Move to another company immediately. You are not a commodity.
Your technical growth should be your top priority at this stage of your career. In a couple of years, you can switch to FAANG and get higher $
Uninstall blind.
Are you an engineer? Why an mba?
Because a lot of business roles want to see a MBA to promote you. And unlike eng, there's no leetcode to advance
Yes I am an engineer. Looking to get into management roles, because although software engineer my experience has mostly been in automotive industry. Working for automotive in the bay area rn
What does OP do? MBA from a good school is quite expensive. Do you want to move into management ? You need to first figure out your goal and then plan for it.
She wants to go to management does he really need an MBA?
OP are u in a software engineering role? If yes, then leetcode. If no, then at the risk of sounding harsh, bay area is not the correct place for non software engineers to be, people around you will soon make manifold than you, u better move away
When I was your age I made 70% of your comp. I now make crap tons of money. Can’t say the money has made me any happier. You’ll be ok.
This is a good feeling if you react positively to it. Take action to change this and start interviewing I felt like a loser after finishing my PhD, a few months after I joined Microsoft, and now after I joined Google. A little of it is healthy, too much isn’t.
