Hi. I'm a project manager supporting a systems team. I've been at the company for 6 years and completed my masters in information systems last year. I feel lost about what I want to do with my career. When I started working, I loved every aspect of my job but, as years go by, I become less and less interested and don't find my self being challenged in a way that gets me excited. My role hasn't been stagnant either, I've had promotions and have worked in diff groups. Is this a sign that I should change careers paths, or am I burning out, or is it time to change company? Anyone else feel this way? TC: 100k YOE: 6
TC?
I really don’t have an answer for your situation but you may try switching company or may be different team. You may come across different challenges which might interest you. After spending few months in new team/company, you might start getting the same feeling again. That’s the cycle, you have to deal with it :(
Can you answer what makes you happy?
Sounds super cliche but, being around others that challenge me and motivate me to challenge myself makes me happy. Also, Working in an environment where I can actually relate with my peers, I started off working with peers my age and gradually ended up working with ppl that are 20 years my senior (not trying to be ageist). Also, being recognized for my work helps too - my last 2 managers both sucked and we're miserable and manipulative human beings. Besides that, I volunteer to mentor interns and new hires which does make me happy to be able to help out someone that is just starting out.
Then the answer is change your company. Remember that managers would suck most of the time, learn to handle them.
