I work in a project for one of the big video games companies. The project is a complete mess. Many coworkers are abandoning what it looks like is going to be a sinking ship soon (right after the game launches). I feel like I should be smart and follow suit but I've been feeling like I don't have what it takes to land a job in another big tech company. Mainly because I'm rusty on CS topics. How do you deal with this feeling that you should stay where you are even if it's terribly stressful because it may be better than what you could find out there?
I feel the opposite.
what's the opposite of Impostor Syndrome?
Delusional
It isnt a syndrome if you're really an imposter
damn
Not really imposter syndrome... imposter syndrome is when you are qualified but you think otherwise... i guess somewhat but not exactly.. Anyway, leetcode a bit and you will land a good job!
Not necessarily you will land a good job if you have a good luck not just leetcode
I was in pretty much the exact same situation and found my skills had stagnated terribly while I was wasting my time having to fight through petty office politics. It did hurt me in terms of finding a new job (they followed no real development procedures, didn't invest in employee growth, and I wound up being woefully unqualified for a couple of the junior level roles I applied for since at my former place, they offered no real guidance. I didn't even have an official job description or expectations list), but I'm grateful for where I ultimately wound up. It's a slight step back career progress wise (though sadly not much of one), but I feel it's a good opportunity to pick up some of the skills I was missing, and refresh the stagnant ones. I'd start taking interviews as soon as possible while trying to brush up on any skills you can as it might take a while to get out. Don't put too much emphasis on the size/perceived prestige of the company, and focus more on finding a place that won't make you hate your life every day. It's not worth staying somewhere that makes you miserable, and you can do better (if it's my former company, practically anything else is better). Good luck and take care.
Dont compromise. If you’re rusty get some elbow grease and leetcode while you still have time.
