How do you approach fellow employees (and bosses) who take multiple lunch/coffee/errand/anything but work breaks, during work hours. Then when things need to get done and they have to work late they act like they are God's gift to the company because they are working "over time" ...mind you we are all salaried, so hours are irrelevant. It's just very frustrating to see an almost empty office and feel like you are the only one working. We are a tech office of about a dozen.
Dear OP, have you ever heard of a word WLB? Or did you belong to that outsourcing body shop companies and their mentality to assume employees are hourly workers?
You donât approach, you mind your own business and complete the tasks efficiently.
As long as they get their shit done, who cares.
When it effects your deadlines because you don't have proper files from other team members, then I care
This sounds stressful and is clearly annoying you. I wouldnât bring it up with them except maybe when you are waiting on a file or someone elseâs work is blocking yours nicely try to encourage them to finish it sooner. Other than that why not try changing teams to one that better fits what youâre looking for? Edit: just saw youâre in team transfer, that sounds good hopefully your next team and you will mesh betterđ goodluck itâs sometimes hard to find the right peeps but all will work out!
Hours doesn't sound like the issue, sounds like the team you're on isn't a good fit for you. As long as your teammates are delivering it shouldn't bother you, otherwise consider discussing with your manager about changing teams.
I'm in the process of a team transfer
It's just the most frustrating when you need help on a task or you need someone else's files and they aren't there. And if course no one picks up the phone if you call.
This is me. Amex culture is 10am to 3pm. 8 to 10 is coffee and walk. 3pm is nap, if WFH. Still get an outperform and bonus multiplier in march. Lol.
This should be standard in our industry.
I work with someone like this. They gym/errand most of the day and do the majority of the work in the evening. It is their preferred way of working. It personally doesnât bother me as long as they are getting their shit done (which they do). Also damn, who voluntarily wants to stay at the office late? Sounds like an L to me.
Now imagine if your whole office did that, except you and one other person
Maybe you're not a good fit for the culture? You can adapt, join in, or outperform. You didnt say how their absence effects you, so unless it does I wouldnt worry about it
