I shared my thoughts to purchased a used Ferrari under $100k. Someone mentioned I may spend all of my money on maintenance. I did some research to see how expensive to maintain a Ferrari. Here is what I found:
- insurance: $2k
- warranty: $5k
- regular service: $3k

Total is $10k per year. still expensive, but not too bad, right?

A lot of owners have different opinions on the warranty. Some would like to spare these money for possible expansive repairs like transmission failures, it is a gamble. But for the first timer, I would like to buy the peace of mind.

Thoughts?

If you’re buying a Ferrari, you should be rich enough that you don’t care about the maintenance lol

  • There's a saying about these types of cars. A lot of people can afford to buy one but they can't afford to own one.

    Get a used 911 turbo

2010 California, but it seems the price is pretty standard. 458 has also the same price

Dude why not the 458, a phenomenal car. The California is a ferrari for non ferrari owners. May be good for some but the 458 knocked it out of the park for that generation.

458 is $130k+, and spider with retractable hardtop is $160k+, almost double the price of California

My 13 A4 probably costs more in maintenance. Try buying Ferrari brakes, see how much they costs. You can easily look for wheel and tire assembly. I'm sure it will be astronomical. I can tell you Audi charges 700$ to replace a single rotor and brake pad, that's ~3k for all 4. You'll definitely need these things when buying a used car.
You still haven't mentioned the miles.

Reasonable price for Ferrari brakes is around $6k-$8k in independent workshop, and $10k+ in dealers.

Insurance seems fkin low. Something is wrong. I pay 3k+ for a 911.

Also I think Ferrari not a very prudent idea if net worth under 10 mil. You very well might be, just saying there are always surprises. Those amounts must be expendable.

The Stradman on YouTube pays $4k a year to insure his Aventador. Not bad for a $250,000 car

Maybe another $8k-$10k per year, but since it is almost 10 years old, the depreciation is relatively flat

If you get laid off, would you need to sell? What price do you think the car will fetch then, and how long will it take to sell? If you have that scenario figured out, you shouldn't have to ask this question.
