Theres a lot of talk about tech/eng TC here, but what about the TC of I-bankers and private equity associates? My friend said that a partner at a private equity firm can rake in $100m a year, which he claims is on the low side! Can anyone confirm this, or know of paybands for the different levels at top firms?
Top tier tech earns more right out of college than their equivalents in finance. IB surpasses at around 5 years experience at VP level. PE does that even sooner. the best WLB IB has worse WLB than worst tech. PE is really the sweet spot since it has better pay and lifestyle than IB (in average). But it's super hard to get into. Partners at top tier PE do get 100M but most PE are not top tier and they likely earn a lot less (still in millions though).
wlb? pe? what are we talking about?
Work life balance = wlb Private Equity = pe
Yeah pe wlb is non existent.
Problem with PE/Hedge Funds is how few actual positions there are. A head hunter once told there are less than 10,000 revenue generating roles in hedge funds that you could get hired into. So sure some of these people make great money, but it’s like being an NBA Star
hedge fund is not that hard to get into for your analogy to get remotely valid. A top tier PE/VC is though, less than 1000 people working in them across the world.
Yeah but making over 1 mil at a hedge fund is hard. People do it, but most are stuck at making 300-400k their whole career. Which really isn’t that good
Just Google heidrick and struggles private equity and you will find a report that details compensation across levels and fund size. Wlb can be awesome depending on the fund. For partners it's a 9-5 job but it's a long slog to get there.
I am sure Bezos makes more than he does
How is this related
Because you’re using the pinnacle of finance success to say finance > tech
