Find a job through recruiter vs on your own

I get a pm in my linked in message box every other day or so from a recruiter talking about “amazing opportunities”. When I will be searching for a new job, is it better to go with them or on your own? How does this recruiting agencies work?

If you start a job search be thorough and respond to ones on linkedin that interest you, use your own network and use a site like Hired. Cover all your basis! I recently did this and it’s unearthed so many opportunities - my top choices kept changing as I moved along the interview processes. I now have several great offers. Good luck!

In my experience, it's easiest to go through recruiters who have already reached out to you for roles you may be interested in, it ensures that you'll get an interview for a spot that they probably aren't already filling internally (a lot of cold drop postings aren't real opportunities) That being said, the best way is to get internal referrals to join your friends' teams (not just a general company referral). Outside of that, recruiters are a great pipeline, since you know they are already interested in you for a potential open spot.

if you only have shitty companies on your resume (like me), it's likely that you will be ignored when apply yourself. I only get interviews when recruiters reach out to me first

Recruiters have insider advantage with their companies with unadvertised jobs. Definitely hit up official company recruiters!
