Hi, I just got referred to facebook by 1 of my friend. Recruiter rejected it saying that they need candidates with 6+ years of experience for this role. I have around 4 years of experience of working as SDE in Amazon (1.5 years in Amazon Retail and 2.5 years in AWS) currently SDE2 ( for last 1.5 years) Now recruiter called me and suggested a role in Enterprise Engineering team in Facebook which looked like a IT role to me as they build internal tools in Facebook. After having worked on AWS scale , I don’t want to work on writing internal tools. Are there no proper Software Engineering roles in Facebook for 4 years of experience? Or may be my resume is not reflecting my experience well? On facebook career page, there are roles mentioned with teams. Does they mean i need specialized knowledge for those teams? Does anyone know good team in facebook which work on scale and have roles available for 4 years experience guy? Thanks
Facebook has hiring freezes for E4 and below frequently throughout the year to balance out the ratio of junior to senior engineers. It might just be bad timing. I can’t say for sure when the hiring freeze will be lifted. It happens to a lot of companies of all sizes. Facebook was in a hiring freeze when I began interviewing and it was lifted as I was wrapping up. Try not to take it personally and don’t get discouraged. It will happen when the timing is right!
Recruiter told me about hiring freeze in Non-Melno park locations, is this hiring freeze applicable across all facebook? Or there is still some chance that i can find some open role. I might sound desperate but I have been preparing for last 6 months . Thats why i wanted to give interviews now 😓
Interesting, is there an E4 freeze right now? If you have an upcoming interview at Facebook is it for E5 levels?
Without knowing exact details about the internal tools you mention, I wanted to point out that many of them at big companies operate at just as large if not larger scales that customer facing things. But if your point was more about you just preferring customer facing things, that’s valid of course. I mostly wanted to clear up the common misconception that internal tools don’t have scale problems—it depends on the tools, just like it depends on the scale of the customer facing products.
And yes, I’m fun at parties. 🥳
Not sure if this is helpful, but: I applied online for FB’s enterprise engineering role with 2 yoe at cisco. The recruiter was going to set me up with a phone interview but it turns out they hired someone else before I could even interview. Not sure if this is the same position you’re referring to
https://www.teamblind.com/article/Enterprise-Engineer-or-E4-at-Facebook-SEn8Ucsa This post somewhat reflects why I am not liking Enterprise engineering role
Same happened with me, I have experience in core infrastructure and they said that they don’t hire people directly for software dev roles so it’s best for me to take enterprise engg.
Wow .. It is weird . I have friends who got hired directly as E4 SWE with same experience as of mine 🤔
That was last year in 2018 though.. not sure if things have changed this year because of hiring freeze
I just got an E4 offer this week with 1.5 yoe so I don’t think they’re going through a hiring freeze. Fwiw, they did tell me multiple times at the start they were currently only looking for 5+ yoe, but that never seemed to actually matter.
Same happened with me. I have about same YOE.
