Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?
With 8yoe look at the job description and decide how much of a match you are. Forget firmware or software, if you meet all the requirements of a job and have enough LC under your belt, it wont matter. Plus it depends on which kind of company you target. For instance, being a firmware engineer may enable you at google as infra engr or SRE or both. Just an example, depending upon what kind of firmware/software engr today you are
Thanks.. but which pays more?? I am a firmware engineer but prefer programming and over embedded stuff. It’s just being a firmware engineer for long time now so its easier to get into embedded roles. But if sw pays more and it’s not too tough to switch and also not a huge reset I may switch
I dont’t think anybody can tell you that for sure. ML software engineer may be paid huge but it sets no limitation on tc of someone implementing the same on ASIC. A lot of factors are involved, one being the direction company wants to take and invest in.
It depends. Other in demand areas of software engineering will pay more than firmware, not in demand areas will pay less.
Any luck
