Does anyone have any experience with making airline reservations if your US visa says first name: FNU and last name:XXYY(XX is the actual first name and YY is family name). In the passport, the first name: <<blank>> and last name: XXYY How do you make airline reservations since the name has to match passport and to pass immigration boarding pass has to match visa issued. I looked online but not getting the best of the answers. PS: its an issue people seldom face in India and some other countries Thanks in advance !
Hello - Don’t worry. I am in the same boat. Just put first name in first name and last name in last name. I travel a lot inside and outside of US, never faced any issue.
I agree! Happened to my mom and we did the same. Airlines are more lenient on that regard than you think unless US Visa offices which give no importance to local sentiments and practices.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I am also thinking to do the same but with all these new visa things happening and the immigration people just looking for excuses to cancel the visas, it makes it so much more scary !
I have a worse scenario. In passport My surname is blank First name is 35 character XXYYZZ In visa My first name is FNU Last name is 35 character XXYYZZ. I faced many problems with booking, almost always..The airlines I have traveled with has the following policy (Emirates, Qatar, Etihad, indigo..) - Put first name in passport as last name in ticket. Most websites allows 32 characters. So fill whatever is allowed to. And put first name as title. Mr/Ms/Mrs/Dr etc. In all cases, i check with airline ( with a painful 30+ minutes to reach their callcenter) Rgds
I was looking for Air France flights. I called them and they suggested writing how you mentioned, but then they said that i should call US consulate and check with them and its impossible to reach them. Lets see how it goes
Ok. Please let us know how it goes. Just Curious, in case I have to travel with Air France some day ;)
I always put what's on my dl
Ideally you should put what's on your DL.. Yeah, it's been a nightmare for me. I finally changed my name on my passport, then got a new H1b filled, and then got my SSN card updated... With the new H1b petition, last time I got my visa stamped with the updated name.
When you say new H1B petition, was it for extension ir for new job? Can you file a petition only for name change?
You can goto an Indian consulate and get the correct name stamped on first pages of passport, along with a msg like "henceforth the name is corrected to ..." I did that and all was good
When was this? Of late, many nations disagree with updates. Esp. Non English speaking nations. The passport has to be renewed imho. What did you do for the existing visa, got it corrected too?
I did this on Indian passport, and would show the airline the page if they asked. Existing I applied with correct name afterwards.
Reservation should match the name on the passport for international travel. If your passport does not have a first name, you cannot just put XX as your first name for the reservation. Better check with the airlines.
