Thinking of traveling solo to Vancouver for about a week straddling New Years. Never been. Blinders have any particularly memorable or exciting recommendations? I know the weather isn’t the best so maybe I should postpone till March TC: 135k (low COL city so it’s alright lol)
Dirt cheap but delicious sushi
Be a homeless person.
I live in Vancouver. My best spots for you: Gastown, Grandville island, seawall, Stanley Park
Love Granville Island and Stanley Park. Highly recommend.
Minami has fantastic sushi (but not that cheap) Drink some indie coffee
Minami is awesome, but it's definitely a place for "a special occasion imo". If you're just looking for a regular lunch place and want sushi, my recommendation would be to go elsewhere. Samurai sushi on Davie is a personal favorite
There's a "clothing optional" beach next to UBC off of Marine Dr. You take a trail down to the beach. But now is definitely not the time to go there. I went there last September and it was already cold enough that I didn't see even a bare foot. Lol
Gastown is nice, but definitely don't go too far East or it gets sketchy. Yaletown has some good food. Granville Island is nice (take False Creek Ferries or Aquabus) but it can be a little touristy in some parts. Make sure it's open. Stanley Park is always a success. Richmond has great Asian food, but is quite a bit out of the way (South)
I recently walked all the way around Stanley Island, just follow the perimeter. Many great photo opps. You could also rent a bike.
Not the best time to visit, summer is much nicer. If you ski make sure you visit one of the local mountains.
Eat some Chinese food in Richmond
