I have 4 yoe in backend tech stack. I recently received offer from Flipkart and msft. Had call with hm at msft. I did not receive positive vibes around the work which i will get in msft. Its a new team and wlb will be hectic as per hm call. In Flipkart work will be on scale and on rest services with the tech stack i know. But brand value and tc wise msft is winning.according to exp candidates what shall i focus on good work or higher tc with brand value. Tc at gs 22 lpa Tc at msft 34 lpa with l61( stocks 40k in 4 yrs+24 base) Tc at fk offered is 30 lpa (I have heard a lot of good things about work at fk its ekart group)(27 base +2.5l stocks per yr) Both companies are not ready to negotiate any further
Which org in msft ?
Office grp
It can be tricky. If you can dm me your mangers name I can look up his m2 and give you better advise. Office has a lot of legacy ...
Microsoft no doubt. Down the years, do you want to be working for Walmart 🤮
What Happens bad in Walmart
Check Glassdoor for enlignment
Microsoft anyday. You can go into Flipkart at any time. You need better luck for Microsoft
But what about the work .. I felt interviews were tough at fk
Hard interviews doesn't mean better work. Hard interviews mean that the hiring bar is high which doesn't transform into better work.
OP, how come your GS TC is 22L? I know new grads who were offered more than that
I am not napa .. i joined from other company
I have worked in both the companies. According to me MSFT wins in so many aspects. you are also getting better CTC in MSFT.
How about the work in msft.. if i don't get good work will it impact my future career .. can i Change teams in future within msft
Don't worry about work. There are so many new and good teams. Work in some team are really good. You can change team just about anytime.
Work for few years, try to L62 as early as possible and move to Redmond. Enjoy your life.
But if its legacy code with no docs wouldn't it be difficult to learn and prove to get promoted
Just keep getting things delivered. Things fall in place eventually. And relocation is good with msft.
Microsoft. Lot of options in terms of teams, project, more flexibility. Plus, liquidity of stocks..
Yes other things are awesome.. just concerned about work ..
Can you describe the work in the words of the HM? I was in the Office org and even though it was desktop software, the work was pretty good (pure C++ for the most part) and I learned loads (was a new grad at the time though).
By his call i feel its more on ui side(react js) .. cross platform problems to solve..
I see. I think you'll learn different types of things there and learn more since you don't have prior experience there. I think it's a judgement call between TC/Brand Value/New type of work vs Familiar work you know you'll enjoy.
Just wanted to pitch in here. With 4years exp, that salary at fk looks decent for sde2. Technically, base is higher at fk, but yeah most of our stocks are paper money, as of now. Maybe with a ipo, maybe it will change. Work is decent/good at fk, good wlb in most groups and managers give a lot of freedom to reports. I wouldn't say it's groundbreaking work. But managers have good visibility for future work and it feels like a slightly democratic place where leaderships ask for feedback from time to time and people do ask the hard questions. Overall, its quite stable and decent work, good if you want to have more me or family time, no obvious downside. Some people moved to ekart from our group recently, so it should be decent as a group. As for comparison with msft, they definitely have a better brand, more facilities and chance to move to us - but the sentiment here is that msft isn't necessarily good for your salary and the kind of work depends. Yearly increments have slowed down at fk, but probably still higher than ms. But, frontend at office team does sound exciting, that shouldn't be the old office team, more like the online office team.
If it’s just about more work at MSFT and you think you can handle it and will learn more there, go for it. If your personal time matters to you or you think you enjoy working in domains which am you’ve already mastered because it gives you a good head start, go for flipkart. Microsoft might be a slightly better brand on resume but it doesn’t really matter much.
Learning at msft is bit skeptical .. .net and other internal frameworks .. will that add value or no body cares about it in real world
Dude, did you just say .net and "no one cares in the real world" in the same sentence? Guess goes to show what you know. Anyway, based on this statement and about more work seems like you have already made up your mind so why ask?
