I have an offer from FB in Bay Area in my fav niche. TC is 50% higher than what I make in Seattle. The only problem is my family cannot move for few years and I have home in Kirkland.

I’m losing my current job so I don’t have many choices. I couldn’t find a job in Seattle in my field.

Seattle TC 200
Bay Area TC 310

The only option I see if I travel every weekend or every other weekend. Has anyone tried this setup ?

Note that I cannot work remote.

Rough but doable, especially if you are losing your job. But "few years" is an issue.

FB has several offices in Seattle and I know some people who work from the Bay Area but for Seattle teams (simply because they don't want to leave the Bay Area). Ask your new manager for any accommodations like that. They might be able to have you work from Seattle for a team in the Bay.

Negotiate working from Seattle every other week or a week in a month or something.

    Doable it is
    But flying gets weary
For a few months you bear it but not for a year

What are you supposed to do at FB that can’t be done remote? Security, food or cleaning services? Just about everything else can be done remote.

People at FB have managers in different offices all the time (especially between SF and Seattle)

I don't think it's going to be bad if you going to travel alternate weeks. Plus with more TC you can have better security

  • I did this for few months and know few who did for few months too. Doing it for couple years will be crazy especially if you have family and kids.

Considering you are losing job might make it bearable. Try for alternative weeks or Friday wfh.

Expense wise it is much cheaper to fly back n forth and stay in Airbnb.

I’ve heard from many sources FB listen requests regarding working from Seattle office for even with teams that are based in SF

You fly to SF and you work in SF.

Did you apply at Microsoft? I don’t know what niche you work in, but this plan sounds ridiculous. Also, 50% bump isn’t going to be enough IMO.
