Folks who hate H1B : Do you know why will happen if H1B program is cancelled ?

Folks who hate H1B on blind, do you know what will happen if H1B program is cancelled ? Let me start: About a million people will go out of status and will have to move to their home country. Some will have to sell homes in a hurry and that impacts local real estate. Neighborhood or local economy would be impacted as apartments will have vacancy and restaurant traffic will reduce. Financials might be hit as well as they might take money to home country. Companies would outsource jobs. Pros: H1B abuse will end and there will be more jobs for American people.

Pros will be temporary as Americans wont be able to do those jobs and companies will have to move the workloads somewhere outside US.

VMware PSOD OP Aug 26, 2018

Companies will not be able to find so many American folks to fill the vacancies. So, it’s a long shot anyways.

There is not enough talent in States thats why companies have to hire from outside. H1B is one of the main reason of tech to flourish in States

Let it happen. Let’s make Canada 🇨🇦 great again !

Cisco JohnC4 Aug 26, 2018

There is no future where Canada is anything but a backwater resource export economy. The country pays tech workers just barely 2.5x India.

Its not about money, people move here for more opportunities and better quality of life.

Wouldn’t canceling the program in its entirety require congressional action? It can’t be done with an Executive action

On the bright side there is no shooting or gun violence in India. We can send our kids to school knowing they will be safe.

Yep, just rape, pollution, and disentiry.

Have you checked air quality in seattle in these days ? Heard homeless people are now popping on streets in sf plus thousands of used needles in public parks.

Cheap and available housing with more scarcity for qualified people? Sounds awesome to me. 🍆

VMware PSOD OP Aug 26, 2018

Say good bye to FAANG stock valuations as well :)

Microsoft richardhea Aug 26, 2018

FAANG is not valued at current levels for providing employment opportunities. They are valued for growth rate and revenue from their products. None of that depends much on a few H1 workers. 🍆

You just promised lower rent and house prices for everyone who is not in tech. You also promised more jobs for people in tech and for fresh grads who graduated from below average universities.

Half of all Silicon Valley engineers are foreign born, up from 10 percent in 1970, and about 40 percent of all U.S. patents go to immigrants. These immigrant-founded companies employed 450,000 workers and generated $52 billion in revenue in 2005. Fact is Americans are incompetent and thats why immigrants are needed.

Salesforce Vlad Putin Aug 26, 2018

I am foreign born. Big chunk of these foreign born folks have GC or citizenship so they'll stay. I worked with my fair share of Americans, they are smart enough. A lot of them significantly smarter than Indian and Chinese work bots. A lot of them just need a good mentorship as fresh graduate, but companies prefer bringing overseas people with 5+yo to not deal with fresh grads. They'll do fine.

Pros: Salaries would rise in USA. More jobs for less talent. Real estate prices will fall so more choice for less price for buyers. American culture would get its true identity and would stop getting diluted and lost by the invasion of other cultures. Only top notch talent who qualifies under the EB1 program would be able to immigrate as a permanent resident. Less traffic on roads. More students enrolling in PhD programs in universities to qualify under EB1 thus boosting research. More parents encouraging their kids to take STEM courses without the fear of they competing with some immigrant.

Facebook known Aug 26, 2018

So to your last point, are parents feared now that their child is incompetent and cant compete with immigrants ?

VMware PSOD OP Aug 26, 2018

Fear of competing immigrant and that is why parents don’t encourage their kids to take STEM. Don’t know what to say :). Even after seeing Tc number of blind, you think H1B get paid less and that is why they have their jobs ?

Google Jfofoansnd Aug 26, 2018

Canceling H1B would be the best thing that could possibly happen to the Canadian tech sector. So many jobs would leave the US and never come back.

Cisco JohnC4 Aug 26, 2018

No one wants to get rid of skilled workers. They want to get rid of the 90% of h1b garbage people that work for body shops.

VMware PSOD OP Aug 26, 2018

I am sure most folks on H1 agree with that. But congress will not take such an action as money >>>>> everything else in the world.

Uber djduh Aug 26, 2018

Sounds good. What's the problem?
