For someone at Apple/Uber, is it worth chasing Google?
I have offers from Uber and Apple (both in SFO) and I have Google on-site coming up. I'm tensed about Google as leetcode alone doesn't seem to cut it. Is it worth chasing Google for additional brand value (oomph factor?) and tc for someone already at Apple or Uber? Tc: 300k approx for both

Google's hiring process is the slowest in the industry. It would take more than a month of reviews, matching, and committee bullshit before you even know if there will be an offer at all. If you chase it, the other two offers will expire
Yea thats right. I had to accept an offer while in the interview stage. If you renege on other offer, you burn bridges forever with one of the top 10 employers just for google. If you dont join google, whats the point in spending so much time preparing extra just for google.
You get more salary at other high growth/ famous companies. Google low-ball offers these days. No point in chasing for more difficult interview and low TC company. Instead I have been spending that time learning and exploring new tools and languages so my work gets easy and I add new skills on my resume. I have become apache committer for some products.

Don’t go to Google for prestige (whatever that is) or compensation (long term compensation at Google ain’t that great). But engineering standards at Google are much higher and it’s easy to concentrate on the business problem (as opposed to everything else like setting up infra deployments etc). So go to Google if you enjoy working on challenging engineering problems with well designed solutions.
Why is long term comp not great at google? Which companies are great in that regards?

I imagine you will always be wondering about Google if you accept Apple/Uber. This would be a completely pressure-free on-site interview; you already have amazing alternatives. I say take the on-site. You’ll get to experience it yourself rather than relying on hear-say. It’s pressure-free as you already have offers. And as an added bonus, if you get the offer, it’s usually good for a year. Congratulations and best of luck!
