Fremont to SFO city..

Have an offer from a startup in the city. Okay, let's get TC out of the way first. $200K no bonus and.5 % equity in the company. CEO sold previous company for few 100 mill ans raised close to 60 for new venture. Company is 40 people so cannot disclose name. Now the question. Have two really young kids, both less than 4. Anyone doing Fremont to City and in similar situation? Is BART the only option? How are you managing pick up/ drop off? Husband is close to getting an offer and will be local and can help. However I am looking for advice from other mothers in the same situation. Remote or WFH every day is not an option.

This doesn't answer your question directly but I know lots of people who live in Fremont. Apartment prices near Bart ate high because people walk then catch Bart to Oakland or SF. It's about 1hr to SF and $11 round trip

Thank you. We live close to Fremont and Union City BART. Dropping off two kids in different daycares, getting to BART and get parking and then time my way back home every day to pick up kids requires zero error precision. I was wondering whether there are private bus lines, services, pick up drop off help, some service or people who can help for few hours in the morning like help gets kids ready and drop them off at the daycares and also pick up.

Unfortunately kids are old for a babysitter and young to be by themselves. Husband is trying to get a local job. Our plan is to divide and conquer. However until he finds something local I would have to manage. He travels to east coast a lot

But even if you miss one you have another in 15 mins

I’ve seen ads about kids pickup and drop off services. I am sure you will be able to find them on Google. I have a similar situation that I live in Dublin area and I commute to city everyday. Drop off my child at pre school around 8:30 and catch the 9 o clock bart, which will make me get in the office by 10. In the afternoon, I leave around 4:30 so I can catch the 4:55 train to be able to pick up my child by 6. Not easy, but doable. However, make sure your company is okay if you literally will only have 6 hours in office every day

Hey, thanks. I am meeting the CEO early next week and will share my situation. I think he understands. If not time to send resumes and ping contacts.

Haven’t read but SFO is an airport not a city

Ellie Mae SxmE80 OP Sep 1, 2018

Yep..meant SF and not SFO. Thanks for the correction

Congrats on the offer - Bart is the best way to go and it’s not bad once you get used to it - parking is a hassle but warm springs still has parking and fremont it’s hard , I know many friends who travel from fremont to sf and they are fine

Thanks for the suggestion. My neighbor said the same. Warm springs would be 6+miles but parking is better. Will try.

A friend hired someone from Care.com for drop off and pickups for her kids.

Yes, we are shortlisting and talking to few next week. 15 bucks each way per kid pick up and drop off. Almost 1000/month for pick up drop off. That's how much I paid for my entire undergrad education. Sigh!.

That’s not too bad 😁 I am not a mom but I did the bart commute from warm springs to SF since March. For me it’s terrible and I ended up quitting 2 weeks ago. Many people can deal w it though. Considering that you’re getting 200k @.5%, it’s worth going for. My base was 160k and 0.05% and I think I can get a higher number anywhere. Not worth it for my situation!

0.5% in equity is a really good deal. Are you sure it’s 0.5% or 0.05%?

Ellie Mae SxmE80 OP Sep 1, 2018

Yes it's .50. I am going as head of engineering... no formal designation but that's the understanding. Engineering is based out of eastern European country. I am hoping to negotiate 3 months 5 days in and slowly taper out. Only concern is CEO want a to build the team here. Oh, well. It will all work out.
