My sister is currently a pharmacist. She’s 32 and a single mom. She wants to move into tech because pharmacist TC gets capped at about 120-140 TC and the work is pretty brain dead. She has her PharmD with no debt. What roles would you recommend transferring into? I was thinking like a Sales Engineering role for a bio tech company. Or a company like Veeva who sells to primarily the healthcare industry.
Not worth the career change. Even with the capped TC and boring work, she could be financially independent in like a decade if she’s good at saving. I don’t think trying to break into tech is worth the effort if she is already making 120k. Also, pharmacists can work anywhere. To make good money in tech, you basically have to live in the Bay Area, Seattle, or NYC.
What about tech in LA? I'm currently a SE in Seattle and wonder what the pay would be like there. Do you have an idea?
Very true, Mglr74, but if she wants a change... I grew up in an area that had a fantastic pharmacy school. Out of my friends who graduated from there, I’d say 1/4-1/3, depending on their time (out) since graduation, have left this very lucrative field. They cited being bored but also the tremendous pressure.
Hey op.. Did ur sister switch career?
