Any tech moms out there who can recommend a fun but relatively cheap destination for a family of four for a four-day weekend in June? Looking to spend only about $1,500 for everything — food, lodging etc. Would be leaving from SF and happy to drive relatively long distances. Kids have never been to Seattle so that might be one option (if we fly). Husband is not camping type. Thanks!
A dad here. A while back we drove through Redwoods to Portland and then went to Oregon coast. That was a nice drive. The fun part for kids was the Ocean Side ( place in Oregon coast) beach (cold) and activities around there.
Thanks everyone! These are great suggestions!
Cannon Beach Oregon is fantastic, but you’d need to book soon. Also Gearhart is a Cape Cod like beach about 10 miles north of there.
Or do a Sacramento Capital and old Sacramento tour. But most schools in the Bay area take kids in grade 5 or 6 also.
There’s a great family camp on the south shore of Lake Tahoe with cabins. Can’t remember the name but might want to google it. Heard great things.
My kids loved a road trip we had visiting the Lava Bed National Monument, Crater Lake and Mount Shasta. Plenty of things to see there and in between these stops.
Vegas?
With kids 🤔 some shows are possible
Yes. Pools, aquarium, cirque du soleil, grand canyon, death valley etc
Just don’t walk the strip unless you want to see pictures of strippers and escort cards handed to you.
There's some nice stuff around the central coast (hearst castle, pismo beach, moro bay, etc) would be a lot cheaper than $1500 unless you went for a really nice hotel. Some of the stuff up by Reno/Tahoe is nice in the summer.
I didn’t think about Hearst Castle — thank you! This might be a really good combo.
Not enough if you want to fly + lodge + tickets somewhere. Driving to SoCal? SD Zoo?
Seattle, San Diego, LA, Portland are all easy (and usually cheap) flights. Within driving distance, Carmel/Monterrey, Pismo Beach, Lake Tahoe, Gold Country!
Seattle and Portland are outrageously expensive for hotels in the summer and Seattle is usually sold out.
