I’m bit confused what to do next. I’m working as software QA or automation engineer since 10+ years now in big product based company. But, I’m not sure QA or automation jobs future over next 10-15 years? Well I’m good at python/perl/shell scripting etc. What type of work should I choose in software field if I have to change? Should I do MS? Would like to work someday in FAANG like companies but QA doesn’t seems to be path for it. Please suggest.
You can switch to DevOps kind of positions i.e. Jenkins etc build tools maintenance.
Agree. Can do a aws cert as well
DevOps I thought of it but very limited jobs are there as most things are already automated, How easy or difficult will be to to switch Dev? AWS cert will help in which direction? I have worked on most virtualization and cloud during last 5 years, so is there any consultant kind of job helps to build career? Or TPM?
Devops jobs are hot and not at all saturated. Aws cert will help inndevops direction. If you get your foot in the door for devops. You can move to solution architect roles in 5 years time framd
Thanks I will do more reading on this👍
+1 For dev ops roles, your dev skills will be very much appreciated.
If you’ve been coding automation, debugging product code and fixing low hanging fruit you’ll be able to get into dev no problem albeit not as senior as you might be in the QA role. That said, your wholistic view of systems might help eventually get you ahead of most devs as well
