GCP team match, please advice.

Hi folks, I'm in the process of team match with GCP. There are 2 teams that I'm interested in, would you please provide some insight? 1. GCP cloud storage API team. 2. GCP dataflow pipeline infra team. My background: I haven't been worked in cloud industry before, but have been a software engineer for ~5 years. In my current team, I get to interact with lots of cloud computing services hence the interest of moving to the other side. Cloud storage is one of the fundamentals in cloud computing. I think it's good to start from the bottom Dataflow has lots of applications in future, so there might be more opportunities in multiple industries that needs data processing. I'm looking for comparison from the personal growth, overall org vide, work load. Thanks in advance!!!

I think data flow pipe line team will be a fit . In cloud storage api you might just work on exposing api but not on core storage . What level are you joining at ?

Joining at L4. Yeah that's a concern, but I figured I would be able to interact with the core storage team heavily since I'm their customer?

Just go with your gut feeling. Depending on how you feel about team and manager. Nothing is perfect. Congratulations and Good luck for your new job.

I wouldn’t recommend GCP. The culture is horrific. There is a lot of talk in internal blind. I assume you already passed the hiring committee, insist on Search or Ads. Cloud recruiters are very reluctant to let you talk any other teams but if you adamant about it, they have to introduce you some managers. Google Brain and Assistant is hot areas paying the most.

Would it be possible to share more details about the culture there?

What aspects of the culture are horrible?

I think one question you should answer for your self is whether you like working on products with internal customers or external customers. Given that one of the teams is an infra team, they probably don't have any external customers. If this bothers you then choose accordingly You'll have personal growth in either at least while you ramp up (~1st year).

I wonder which team did you choose eventually? I am currently facing similar situation.
