Correct. I have a friend who works at a AAA game studio and he gave me a tour of the office. It was a cool floorplan and everyone had offices or were in fairly spacious pods with a few other folks. Everyone except that testers, that is. They were off in a corner of another floor crammed together.
Game testing is considered by many dev teams as a dirty shit job that they would not touch with a 10 feet pole. Be ready to be considered like a Guinea pig or a spare part that can be trashed as soon as you show signs of fatigue.
I hear you can sign up with major console brands and do part time gigs. If you are really into this job, you may want to ask around and see if there are any tech companies that are building tools around game testing and join them. This route seems more fruitful for career trajectory.
