Hey guys! What is the best way to get into game testing?
But also not as fun as you think it sounds
Correct. I have a friend who works at a AAA game studio and he gave me a tour of the office. It was a cool floorplan and everyone had offices or were in fairly spacious pods with a few other folks. Everyone except that testers, that is. They were off in a corner of another floor crammed together.
For the love of god, don’t
You just apply. Testing is kinda the bottom of the totem pole. Be prepared to be treated like a second class citizen.
That mentality is changing rapidly as SDET's are closer to SWE's
I would love for that mentality to change. It's super toxic and not appropriate for a workplace.
Customer service or quality assurance experience is key. Demonstrating the ability to think critically by outlining test scenarios that are not "happy path" will go a long way
If you have better options I would pursue those first
Try doing support instead of game testing. One rung up
If you just want to do it for fun, try this https://www.ea.com/playtesting
Fastest way? Apply. Best way? Don't.
I hear you can sign up with major console brands and do part time gigs. If you are really into this job, you may want to ask around and see if there are any tech companies that are building tools around game testing and join them. This route seems more fruitful for career trajectory.
