Curious if most workers in gaming are there out of passion specifically for their game, games in general or just kind of ended up there — let’s find out!
I always developed my skills around games because i loved games, now I don’t play games nearly as much but work is still pretty fun from a problem solving point of view
I love games, they are life but it wasn't a factor in how I came to join my company.
I've only really ever played Blizzard titles. They are fairly easy to play, hard to master, making it easy to jump in an out but thoroughly satisfied with the beauty of art and story. They were convenient since I had a different industry/career path for another passion that took up a lot of my time. I continued to apply at Blizzard on the off chance that something would come along. When the opportunity came, I took it and have been here ever since.
Have always loved games and watching others play games (Giant Bomb). Those things plus good timing brought me to Twitch.
How is it at twitch? Are you an sde and if so what level? How’s the TC?
In product. Comp is in line with AMZN, so higher than game dev in general (I think).
Comp and people.
Started out just for the love of games and lucked out working on a game I really enjoyed. When the passion died down, moved to a start up and made a decent amount of money from profit sharing after our first game did well. After that passion died down, moved again for a fun project with some friends at a much larger company and getting paid well. All in all I’ve never been completely bored about the games I was working on.
