General Motors - no response after first interview

I interviewed at GM for a mobile developer(iOS) position.

As part of the first round of the interview process I was expected to complete a GitHub coding challenge ,an online GM Assessment, and a HireVue OnDemand (HVOD) video interview. I completed all this and updated recruiter.

It has been almost a month since then and I haven’t received any response.

I contacted recruiter once 2 weeks back and he said he has not received any update from the team.

Should I contact him one more time or should I assume they are not moving ahead with my profile.

I almost spent the whole weekend completing these assessments. I think I atleast deserve a feedback.

It's hard to get into FANG if you work for a low tier company.

Yeah that’s true..But for so called real tech companies nowadays it looks like there is no life without LC.
I am working on it though in parallel.

I know multiple people who got into FANG companies from GM IT (all from Austin). GM is not a low tier company.

In the past year, GM has eliminated whole floors of people from the Atlanta IT team. If you’re doing IOS development at Austin IT, I think a lot of the “good ones” from Atlanta took the transfer. I wouldn’t be surprised if the role has already been filled by an internal or if the position has been eliminated and some poor soul is now doing the job of two people.

I only know this because the people I’ve worked with at the Phoenix, Austin, and Atlanta innovation centers are all told “informally” that they shoulda start looking elsewhere, just in case.

It’s kind of a bloodbath at GM right now.

Man this sounds scary. Thanks for shedding some light on this situation.
And yes its been more than a month for the interview process. Now I am anticipating something similar to what you mentioned might have happened.

Atlanta is the bastard child of GM IT. No idea why they even started that IC.

Probably 90 to 100k . Try to get level 7 that would be around 110-120k in the lower band

Level 7s can definitely go higher than $120k.

Alrighty I’m not going to argue this. Post a screenshot of one role from PeopleSoft with that range.

@whofarted ..Dude looks like you got low balled as a level 8 . There are level 7s who earn more than level 8s , you will be surprised at the amount of overlap...

I’m not sure how or why you derived that I make anywhere near or less than the amount being discussed. That has not at all been communicates or implied.

Look guys, @whofarted is right that the top percentile of Level 7's are in the 110-120k range. There are special cases where Level 7s are hired above that (i.e, poaching SWEs from Cali ). The Level 7's above 120k are likely because they've been in GM for a long long time, or had great raises.

Finally I got a response from them that they want to move ahead. Can you please tell me what should I expect from the skype interview which is coming up next and the on-site?

Arizona haha. Hmmm I interviewed as a new grad not sure what to expect as an experienced hire but there wasn’t any whiteboarding

Op. Do one thing. Go to Glassdoor search for GM reviews and filter by either the Austin or Phoenix location. The reviews are around 2/5. They are a car company at the end of the day and their old school culture does not work well for IT professionals

I’d beware of the sour grapes people that were let go but still have valid Blind accounts until they’re recalibrated.

GM IT is a real shit show. You should look elsewhere. There is no room for growth and your technical skills will stagnate.

May I ask, which team you interviewed for ? I can try to shed some light on which are the good, bad or risky ones for you as I have a lot of friends at the Austin location ...

This is par for the course for GM from what I've seen. Honestly it's an amazing company to work for but I also work in hardware side as a true car guy. I might see things a little different.
